Live from the 93rd Indy 500

Well, as I sit here in the stands, it certainly is fairly hot for this time of year. There is a little breeze and some rain on the radar to the south. It has been pretty cool up until this week.

The singing of "Back Home Again in Indiana", the National Anthem and the military fly over were awesome as always. They also did a 21 gun salute and played Taps to honor the military men and women who have lost their lives. After all, that is what Memorial Day is really all about. Remembering those who have given their lives to defend our country.

There was a bad start when some drivers jumped ahead before they reached the Yard of Bricks. They had to come around and line up again to start again! Then there is a wreck in the first lap. This could prove to be a very interesting race! And as I am writing this, in lap 21 there is another wreck! This could definitely be a very interesting race!

Just wanted to “hop” on to my blog and wish everyone a Happy Easter and share the card (alright, tag!) that I made for my family.

Any guesses on where I am at today???

My brother, sister-in-law, and niece have been visiting me for the last few days for spring break. We decided that since the weather was going to be nice we would go to St. Louis to explore for a couple days. I snapped this pic of the Gateway Arch with my phone so I could share.
Sent via Janel's BlackBerry.

2009-04-05

Yep, it’s Spring!!!

at least until tomorrow...

But today it looked like this!
SpingflowersWEB But they are predicting snow again, boo.

2009-04-02

Spring?

I think that it might finally be here.  It seems like I have waited quite a while for it to show up this year.  Here is why I think it might be here:

DSC00040

I was wearing my winter coat, and my hands were freezing, but I was wandering around the grounds of the local art museum and their Magnolia tree was really trying to convince me it is spring.

DSC00091

I can’t wait to see what will bloom next!

Wonder Girls Beach Party…

…beach number 5.

G’day Mates! Wonder Girl Janel joining you on Bondi Beach, just outside of Sydney, Australia! I hope that you had a “wonder”ful time visiting with Teri in Waikiki!

I am having such a wonderful time here at Bondi Beach! I am so glad you could join me to enjoy the blue skies. How about we just wander up and down the beach listening to the surf and enjoying ourselves. Isn't this just a beautiful place to relax and just enjoy life.

P1000388WEB

P1000389WEB

Have you been picking up the designer party favors along the way? I sure hope so! You should have 4 so far. Bondi Beach is the last beach of the Wonder Girls beach party, so you will now have the complete set of "Designer Extras" that coordinate with the Bahama Mama collab by the Sunshine Studio Designers.

JAN_BM_AO_600x00

Download your last party favor, here!

Well it is time to leave this lovely beach and head on back home. If you missed any of the beaches, hop back on the plane and head back to the first beach on the SUN blog.

If you end up at one of the beaches and one of us are not there yet to greet you, please be patient and wait for us. These "wonder"ful beaches are a little far apart and it might take us a few hours to get there!

That is all for now, Wonder Girl Janel, signing out until next time.

2009-03-18

I wanted to take the time of my busy schedule this week to wish a good friend of mine, Teri, a very Happy Birthday. I was going to make actual cupcakes and send them, but I figured they would not have survived the US postal service. In lieu of sending the cupcakes, I though about Teri as I ate the frosting out of the can!!! I hope you have an amazingly "wonder"ful day!!

* Thanks to Flergs for the BYOC (build your own cupcake!)

2009-03-07

eeek I’ve been gone for a while…

…no, I did not fall of the earth! Thank goodness for gravity! I have just been really busy and very neglectful of my blog.

It is supposed to be a beautiful day today, about 70 F, and as I sit and write this I can hear the birds outside. Can it be?? Is spring finally on it’s way?? One can only hope! Think I will go out later and try to find it!

I have a few scrappy things to share:

Lots of new stuff at Sunshine Studio Scraps, including this fun Collab kit by Polka Dot Plum and Amy Sumrall Designs.

and the new monthly collab is out. I can’t wait to play with this one!

and finally, SUN has a new challenge system and great new challenges. Check out our Race Track.

That is all for now, Wonder Girl Janel, signing out until next time.

ADSR4 Challenge 12

Both players must collaborate on one project.

Create a layout that expresses what storytelling means to each of you.

Your story must include:

  • {we are} storytellers word-art provided, you may alter the word-art if you would like.
  • At least 1/2 of the layout must be journaling, more the better
  • At least 5 elements/embellishments
  • No more than 2 pieces of paper
  • Only 2 small photos; 1 of each of you, placed in the bottom right hand area of your page.

2009-02-12

ADSR4, Challenge Number 11

This one required a little thought on my part...

You can ask any one person (dead or alive; family, friend, famous or foe) one question. Who would it be and what would you ask them?
Here are some layout requirements:
1. Your layout can have only ONE photo. The photo must either be of the person to whom you are posing the question OR must represent the question you are asking.
2. You MUST include your question in your layout and your question can be the ONLY words/journaling on your layout.

ADSR4, Challenge Number 10

Challenge 10 was pretty easy for me, my partner was the one who had to do all the work! LOL

Roadblock-only 1 persom may do this challenge. (Turns out it is jaye that has to do this challenge because I did the scraplift your partner challenge, #6.)

Interview your partner
You must ask at least 5 questions
Include a picture
Use 2 designers

So, here is what the interview turned into:

I think that she did an amazing job capturing both of our personalities in this layout!

Hop on the train….

...come and join the fun!  I’m Janel, and I am stop #3, on the Team Polka Dot Plum Blog Train!

SO, a little about me, I live in the presently melting mid-west of the United States.  Earlier this week it was –3 F and today it is going to be 50 F!  I love digital scrapbooking, as you can tell by looking at my blog, LOL  I hope that you enjoy the quick pages that Team PDPlum is making for you over the next little while.  Amy and Lauren are the most gifted designers and I enjoy working with their designs.

Yesterday, I hope you were at SassyPixie’s blog for stop 2 of the train.

Here is what my quick page looks like:

folder

Download it here!

Tomorrow, make sure you head over and check out Emily’s blog, she will be the next stop on the train!  You need to make sure that you stay on this train until it reaches the final destination!  There is going to be something you are not going to want to miss!

Happy Scrapping!

ADSR 4, Challenge Number 9

This week’s challenge is: Generations.
Your scrapbook page completed for this challenge must include:

  1. Photos of at least two generations of family members (the more generations, the better).
  2. Lace
  3. Something metal, preferably, old metal.
  4. At least one flower.
  5. At least one vintage or retro-style element. It can be ephemera, an old book, an old clock, and so on.

So here is my layout

5 Generations (1973)
Youngest to Oldest
My brother, myself, my mother, my grandmother, my great-grandmother, and my great-great grandmother (seated)
The lace is an actual doily crocheted by my great-grandmother, that I photographed and extracted.
The metal is the rhinestone bow pin from Flergs
The flowers are from Flergs
I am considering my vintage element to be the crystal button from Armina Designs

ADSR4, Challenge 8

Here are the rules:

1. Scraplift a layout from the gallery of your Scrapping Idol.
2. Include a star somewhere on your layout.
3. Include the word DREAM somewhere on your layout.
4. Please link up to the layout you lifted in your credits.

I don't really have a scrapping idol, but the layout I lifted has been in my favorites for quite a while.

2009-02-01

ADSR4, Challenge 7

These were the rules:

Make a layout using everything in the Sunshine Studio Scraps, Sunrise Special freebie. You may recolor, resize, etc. as long as you use it all in some way. You can use other products in addition to this freebie.

And this is what I created:

I will be back with my entry for challenge #8!

2009-01-30

It is under there somewhere....

This is what my Wednesday looked like. I have mentioned I really don't like snow, haven't I??? And this is alot of snow for us. Sixth largest snow on record, 13 inches!

So, I have to admit apartment living is pretty good; somebody cuts the grass, people fix things when the break....I am pretty sure that means that they should plow the parking lots and sidewalks. Turns out when they do plow, they plow the empty spot next to you and then you can't even see the side of your truck. (This pic is before they plowed!) And I have to tell you, living in an apartment.... I do not own a shovel! I spent the afternoon digging out my truck with a kitchen broom! Trust me I know how silly I looked, cause all my neighbors were doing the same thing!

2009-01-28

ADSR4 Challenge 6

Here were the rules:
Only 1 person on the team can particpate. Choose a layout from your partners gallery and scraplift it using the following direction:

  1. Take your chosen layout from your partners gallery and flip it either horizontally or vertically.
  2. Now take the layout and rotate it 45 degrees.
  3. You must use this new version as the sketch for your layout.
  4. When creating your layout you must use the EXACT same number of items that your partner used in the original layout, no more, no less.

2009-01-22

ADSR4 challenge #5

This challenge was, for me, more difficult...You could not use any pictures!

here is the challenge:
Create a layout that has no photos on it, but includes at least 3 different and separate photo frames. Create a page to record and preserve special thoughts, feelings and/or memories with a little thought and planning and with the creative use of photo frames and journaling (although journaling is not required for this challenge).

2009-01-20

ADSR4 challenges 3 & 4

Since challenge 5 is already posted, I wanted to share my layouts from challenges 3 and 4. Eek, only a little behind....

Challenge #3
Find the first layout you created that is still uploaded to a gallery and scraplift it using techniques, trends and concepts that you have learned since you did that original layout.

You can...
  • You can use a different kit, elements, papers, brushes, shapes, etc.
  • You can add and remove elements, papers, etc.
  • You can use a different sized canvas.
  • You can move things around and change the overall sketch of the layout.
  • You can use the first layout uploaded to any gallery.
You can not...
  • You can not add additional photos to the layout.
  • You can not remove any photos from the layout.
  • You can not add additional text to the layout. The only text that appears on the layout must be identical in verbiage to what it was originally.

The original layout I lifted is here.

Challenge #4
  1. The Art of it: Your LO must have artistic flair! Literally! Your LO must have at least 3 things "artsy" and/or "altered" on it.
  2. The Soul of it: You must journal something from your Soul. Something positive, heartfelt and meaningful to you in your life! Something you've learned, something you've gleaned from your life experience.

Oakland vs. IPFW

My most favorite basketball player is playing in her home state! Of course, we had to go! The Golden Grizzlies are playing against Indiana University Purdue University at Fort Wayne.

Go girls!

The Golden Grizzlies win 79-64!

2009-01-13

An amazing opportunity...

...If I were you I would apply!

2009-01-12

I was featured.....

....on Ellie's Angels Blog for 3 of my LO's, which by the way are among my new faves!! Go and check it out!

2009-01-10

ADSR4 Challenge #2

This challenge was a little tougher, both team mates needed to work collaboratively on this project! 2 racers / 1 final product!

The theme is Cabin Fever
and Must include:
3 photos
4 papers only (no more or less)
8 different elements - at least 1 must be acrylic
2 different fonts
Must have a title, and journaling

Thank goodness for Yahoo messenger and being able to chat and send photos back and forth. That made things a little easier, LOL

Anyway, here is our collaborative LO using the Radiation Collab by the Sunshine Designers!

2009-01-08

Just had to share.......

....have you checked out my CT blinkies recently? What, you have a life and haven't even looked twice??!! Well then let me tell you about the new one that is over there, I am a guest this month for Designs by Sine. What do you mean, "Who is Sine?" She is the goddess of template designers. She has the most amazing fresh templates available, and I must say I love them!!!

SO I used one of her template sets, SO Reviewed and made a layout featuring my most favorite basketball player, yep, you got it, I scrapped a layout of Kira!

Check it out:

Well, I am off to scrap some more!

2009-01-07
